ABOUT US

The mission of Southern Community Services, an affiliate of Penn-Mar Organization, Inc., is to provide outreach programs, housing and emergency services, information, referrals and resources to enable low/moderate income residents of southern York County to become independent members of the community.

In 1988, a grass roots effort supported by the churches in southern York County was formed and called the Southern York County Human Service Coalition. In 1994, the name changed to Southern Community Services and became a United Way funded agency. As the needs of area residents grew, Southern Community Services and Penn-Mar recognized that a partnership would better allow those needs to be met. In 2001, SCS became part of the Community Resource division of Penn-Mar. SCS continues to be supported by the United Way of York County, community members, churches, municipalities and service organizations.
