Penn-Mar Human Services Merges With Established Carroll County Maryland Developmental Disabilities Service Provider
Partnership with Westminster, MD-Based Change, Inc. Allows for Greater Support of Services
Penn-Mar Human Services, the region’s leading provider of services for individuals with developmental disabilities (IDD), recently announced a merger with Change, Inc., a nonprofit organization that has provided exceptional person-centered programs and services to Marylanders with IDD for more than 50 years. When the agreement is formally finalized in July 2019, Change, Inc. will become a division of Penn-Mar Human Services and continue to operate their current programs in the same locations across Carroll County and surrounding counties.
Based in Carroll County, MD, Change, Inc. serves approximately 160 individuals with disabilities through a staff of nearly 120 team members. Penn-Mar serves approximately 500 adults with IDD across Baltimore City, Carroll, Baltimore, and Harford Counties in Maryland, and southern York County in Pennsylvania.
The merger is a culmination of ongoing discussions and collaboration between the two groups. Both organizations provide many of the same comprehensive services including customized employment, day services focused on community participation, personal supports, and respite care.
“This merger is an extraordinary opportunity to take two organizations who are excellent at what we do and put our collective teams together to create a world-class organization,” says Penn-Mar Human Services CEO Greg Miller.
Miller continues, saying that the goal of the merger is to create an organization that will be a national model for innovation, effectiveness and sustainability as the nation’s IDD provider-community continues to evolve.
Mike Shriver, Change, Inc.’s current CEO, will become Executive Director of Change, Inc. a division of Penn-Mar Human Services and will join the Penn-Mar Human Services’ leadership team. Full integration of the two organizations is expected to take approximately 12 months. Coincidentally, Shriver was the CEO of Penn-Mar from 1984 to 2000.
“I’ve always admired the work Penn-Mar does to support the communities across central Maryland and southern Pennsylvania,” Says Shriver. “Having formally been a part of the organization for nearly 20 years, I have a deep understanding of the work they do and know that their mission aligns perfectly with the goals we hold dear at Change, Inc.”
“We believe our organizations will be better together,” adds Miller. “This merger allows us to advance our mission on a wider scale with wider influence.”
