Cead Mile Failte (100,000 Welcomes) to the 12th Annual Penn-Mar Irish Festival, presented by Glatfelter Insurance Group. This family-friendly event takes place
10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2012, on the grounds of The Markets at Shrewsbury, 12025 Susquehanna Trail, Glen Rock, PA 17327.
Please note: Parking and shuttle bus service is provided at the Penn-Mar Human Services offices (10709 Susquehanna Trail, Glen Rock). The shuttle will run continuously throughout the day, leaving approximately every 8-10 minutes.
The festival will feature traditional and contemporary live Irish music (including a session to start the day), Irish dancers, Irish food, children’s activities, door prizes, and a wide variety of vendors offering Irish goods including gifts, clothing, jewelry, music, books, pottery, photography, stained glass, and more.
Proceeds benefit Penn-Mar Human Services, a non-profit agency that provides support services which promote value, independence and self-determination to families and individuals with disabilities or human service needs throughout southern York County (Pennsylvania) and northern Baltimore County (Maryland).
Returning to our stages this year will be: Amhranai Na Gaeilge, Irish Blessing, Nua, The Spalpeens, and Screaming Orphans.
There are several new additions to the festival this year, including music by Mossy Moran (born in Ireland and currently residing in Ohio) and Annapolis-based band The Rovers. Irish author John O'Brien, co-director of the Cleveland Irish Festival and editor of the Ohio Irish American News, will present two programs based on his poetry.
Festival organizers are also adding an additional tent for the purpose of screening the documentary "Beautiful People," a film that celebrates the passion and camaraderie of New York City's longest-running traditional Irish music session. The film's producer will be on hand for a Q&A session between two of the screenings.
Enjoy Irish dance performances by McGinley School of Irish Dance, Ni Riain School of Irish Dance, and Oh! Gill's Irish Dancers, plus the sounds of Susquehanna Pipes & Drums strolling the festival grounds throughout the day.
For the youngsters, a Children's Activity Tent will feature games, crafts, coloring pages, face painting, a caricature artist, and more.
Admission is $7.00 in advance or $10.00
