RESIDENTIAL
OUR HOMES
Penn-Mar’s residential program operates more than 36 homes in a two-state area that includes southern York, northern Baltimore, Carroll and Harford counties.
Each home is unique, with some nestled in suburban neighborhoods and others placed in more rural locations that provide a serene setting. Many of our homes are custom-built to best meet the needs of the people who live there. Special features include individualized apartments and wheelchair accessibility.
Penn-Mar recognizes the importance of living with people of ones’ choosing and our philosophy is a reflection of that belief. That is why, every effort is made to ensure housemates are compatible by identifying likes, dislikes, hobbies and interests. Staffing is determined based on the needs of the individuals at each home with the intent of promoting as much independence as possible. By working together with families, we are able to make each house a home for our residents.
In Maryland, services are regulated by the Office of Health Care Quality and the Developmental Disabilities Administration. Admissions to the Maryland residential program are usually generated after funding is granted by the Developmental Disabilities Administration.
In Pennsylvania, the Office of Mental Retardation licenses homes under a regulation known as Chapter 6400. All services are contracted through York/Adams Mental Health/Mental Retardation.
