Record Breaking 22nd Annual Penn-Mar Black Tie Gala

jenna shriver photography_penn mar human services 2014 black tie gala-316On March 8th, 2014, Penn-Mar held its 22nd annual Penn-Mar Black Tie Gala “Best of the Blends” at the Grand Lodge of Masons in Hunt Valley, Md. It was a record crowd of over 400 people and it was a beautiful evening, from the weather outside to the last dance at midnight. Live and silent auctions, jewelry, and dancing were highlights of the evening. Our young auctioneers provided a lot of entertainment and yielded returns that nearly doubled our expectations. Perhaps the most poignant event of the evening however, was the plea for generators for our homes so that we won’t have to experience another winter like this one, with many of our individuals displaced because of power losses. In the past the plea has brought in $20,000 but President and CEO Greg Miller asked the audience to consider helping us raise $30,000. The results were a stunning – $56,000!

Up for auction were multiple pieces of Penn-Mar Art hand made by individuals we serve. Sale of these pieces raised $1,540 which will directly help the art department with tools and supplies.

We were amazed by the response to our guest speaker, David Reed, and the ‘Transforming Life Into Living for David’ video. David received not one but two standing ovations!

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this annual affair and showed support for Penn-Mar Human Services. Our wonderful committee, chaired by Wendy Gallo and our team of (mostly staff and spouse) volunteers led by Jen Leidy delivered an exceptional and smoothly run evening! This amazing night has helped to raise awareness of Penn-Mar Human Services, its mission, and bring in financial support of $225,000! Mark your calendars for March 7th, 2015 so you can share in this special event with us next year!
