David was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder in April 2014 at the age of two. Due to behavioral concerns, he was removed from several daycares and had challenges with early learning skills such as developing expressive and receptive language abilities.

By working with Penn-Mar Human Services, Toni, a hard-working single mother, discovered David was eligible for a Low Intensity Support Services (LISS) grant which “is designed to improve an individual or family’s quality of life, increase or maintain independence, and participate in their communities.”

Through Penn-Mar, Toni was awarded a check for daycare reimbursement and a tablet device as assistance technology. The grant was used to supply David with sensory sensitive gear and other items to help create a personal space at home where he can be comfortable, safe and happy. The tablet is something that David uses daily as a ‘quiet time’ toy to strengthen his early learning skills.

David is now thriving in pre-K.
