Each month, we’re highlighting a “behind-the-scenes” team member whose work supports our mission, but whose face you might not often see on our social media pages.
We’re excited to help you get to know our innovative team and the complex work we do.
Tune in each month for our #TeamMemberSpotlight!
What is your job title?
Transition Youth Coordinator
What’s one thing you wish people realized about your job?
How interesting the job is and how much variety you get from day-to-day. Last week I worked with one individual who is scheduling informational interviews with gaming companies, and another individual who doesn’t communicate verbally and sat next me and used the mouse to build a collage of his favorite things. Helping someone get closer to their best life is such a good feeling.
Why is Penn-Mar’s mission important to you?
Because every person deserves the chance to thrive and not just survive. I think about all of the freedoms I have to schedule my day the way I want, live where I want, and spend time with people of my choosing. I am so glad that Penn-Mar values independence and self-determination.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, (once COVID is over, of course!) you’d visit . . .
I would travel just about anywhere that isn’t too cold. Presently I have traveled to Brazil, Ecuador, England, the Galapagos Islands, the Netherlands. After the pandemic is over, I can’t wait to hit the road again. I can’t decide where to go first!
In your spare time, you’ll be found . . .
Assistant coaching a Girls on the Run team at the Y in Westminster. This spring, I will be starting my second season with the organization. I love watching the girls learn about empowerment, gain comfort with their emotions, and understand the value of setting goals and reaching them.
