Customized Employment 

As an Employment First Provider, Penn-Mar encourages every interested individual to consider employment as his/her outcome. We will assist each individual who wants to work with obtaining an integrated community job of his/her choice, while also earning a competitive wage. We now support over 80 Maryland and Pennsylvania residents with intellectual and/or physical disabilities in careers within industries such as: Automotive, Clerical, Child Care, Custodial, Customer Service, Engineering, Food Service, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Retail, and Sports Maintenance.

Utilizing a customized approach, our highly skilled team of job developers and employment staff utilize the following strategies to ensure a successful employment match:

  • A four-to-six week discovery and exploration process which identifies each job seekers skills, preferences, and natural talents as potential employer contributions.
  • Developing paid and non-paid activities such as informational interviews, time limited work experiences, and job shadowing opportunities with potential employers to gain a better understanding of specific job tasks and work environments.
  • Identifying specific labor needs of area businesses to determine if a mutually beneficial relationship exists between the employer and our job seeker.
  • Providing ongoing support through job coaching, mentoring, training and/or the development of natural workplace supports to ensure a successful transition.
