The goal of Penn-Mar’s respite program is to provide a homelike residence where people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families can be assured that quality support is provided during short-term stays.
Penn-Mar offers respite services in two different locations. In Maryland, in-home respite services are also an option. Please see the state-specific details below.
Pennsylvania
Penn-Mar’s Pennsylvania respite home is located in Jefferson, PA. Planned and emergency respite for qualified residents of York and Adams counties can be coordinated through York/Adams MH/IDD Supports Coordination.
We will ensure active participation in typical daily activities by providing opportunities for community outings, transportation to and from local adult day and vocational programs, and assistance in basic self-care. Individuals still enrolled in a local school will continue to attend as scheduled.
Maryland
In Maryland, respite support is available to people and their families as a break from day-to-day routines. When eligible, respite can be received in-home for a few hours at a time.
Someone receiving respite can still work and receive other meaningful day services on the days they receive respite.
Penn-Mar also acts as a pass-through provider for state licensed respite camps when the person is accessing respite camp funding through the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA).
