Our Approach

Star Community started their transformation journey under the guidance of Mike and Kevin in January of 2020. Mike and Kevin took the time to learn about our organization, team dynamics, board composition and the mission. Mike directed the discussions in such a manner that the team developed a strategic plan, objectives, and key initiatives that all team members agreed upon. While the process started as a method to Employment 1st services, the team realized that is required a cultural shift for the organization. Mike facilitated the process to include the cultural shift in a systematic way with measurable outcomes. Kevin worked directly with the Employment and Meaningful Day services director and staff on the development of Employment services. Even during the COVID-19, Mike and Kevin were available to as Star continued to work on the Strategic Plan. It has been a pleasure working with them to develop the plan and the team has been strengthened throughout this process due to the strategic way in which Mike facilitated the discussions.

My staff and I had the privilege to work with Kevin Walker and members of his team from Penn-Mar Human Services. Kevin and his team were amazing. Simply amazing. Kevin did a wonderful presentation at our agency’s strategic planning meeting focusing on how transitioning to community-based employment services affect an entire organization. His presentation on organizational transformation helped change the mindset of many leaders and staff at our agency to see how it is possible for any individual that wants a job in the community can be supported in reaching those goals. The transformation that is continuing to occur at Delmarva Community Services, Inc. would not have been possible without the dedication of Kevin and his team. I am privileged to have had the opportunity to work with and be mentored by Kevin and Penn-Mar. Penn-Mar, an agency of distinction serving persons with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in both Maryland and Pennsylvania has now added Executive Mentoring for agency decision makers. Their concept to help organizational leaders with establishing thoughtful strategies to channel organizational direction from awareness-action-accountability all in an effort to move organizations to serve the consumer from a ‘life to living.’ Mike Shriver (Penn-Mar Consultant) has provided Executive Coaching to me over the last 15 months. During this period, services offered to me have included: scheduled 1:1 discussion on a variety of organizational and professional writings; availability through text for quick turnaround, telephonic for a sounding board & email allowing added thought to this Director faced with ongoing questions or problems; receipt of regular Penn-Mar e-Coaching minute brief and access to Penn-Mar trainings that highlight personal/professional growth.
