Beginning October 1, 2016, Penn-Mar Human Services is increasing the pay rate of most of our entry level Direct Support Professionals (DSP) to $11.88/hour. There are many other DSP positions that start even higher. John F. Kennedy, Jr. wrote, “Quality is defined at the point of interaction between the staff member and the individual with a disability”. A self-directed and satisfying life for the individuals Penn-Mar supports depends on the strength and professionalism of our DSP’s. Penn-Mar is pleased to announce this wage increase as part of a comprehensive initiative that provides recognition and wage enhancements for performing this important work.
The pay increase, along with a newly launched national credentialing program for our DSP’s is part of a broader Penn-Mar initiative to amplify high-quality training and opportunities for DSP’s that will provide ongoing wage enhancements, reward professionalism, and strengthen staff recruitment and retention of our exceptionally talented team members. This will ultimately result in greater care consistency, providing higher quality lives for the individuals we support.
As an organization that is primarily supported through state and federal funding, Penn-Mar Human Services relies heavily on the generosity of donors to assure that programs such this can be developed and sustained. The Penn-Mar Foundation is committed to ensuring that critical initiatives like this can move forward as government funding alone is not enough.
