Baltimore — A powerful new documentary, “Thriving Together: The Power of Inclusion,” is taking an intimate look into the lives of four Marylanders with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). By showcasing their daily lives – demonstrating independence, resilience, and joy – the 60-minute documentary aims to break down stereotypes and create a more inclusive community. The film will premiere at a public screening on December 2, 2025, with a 6 p.m. reception and 7 p.m. showing at the Carroll Arts Center in Westminster, Maryland.

The documentary, produced by The Community Media Center of Carroll County, is a powerful testament to what’s possible, tracking the unique journeys of Randy, Hunter, Todd, and Dave – four people with IDD supported by regional human services organizations: The Arc Carroll County, Bello Machre, Penn-Mar Human Services, and Target Community & Educational Services, Inc.

The film spotlights each person’s daily pursuit of independence across residential, employment, community, and educational settings. It’s designed to show the viewer how each participant leverages their individual abilities to achieve personal milestones. By providing diverse viewpoints, the documentary offers a broader representation of people with disabilities, hoping to challenge stereotypes and inspire viewers to engage in positive community action.

Through Randy’s journey, viewers learn how she juggles her passion for teaching alongside multiple jobs and hobbies. Hunter’s path addresses his love for sports and desire to become a Direct Support Professional, supporting others with disabilities. Todd is actively building his own art and woodworking business, and Dave is focused on his health and wellness goals, beating the odds he was given alongside his cerebral palsy diagnosis.

“The stories in this documentary are a powerful way to showcase the incredible capabilities of the IDD community,” said Susan Reed, the Community Media Center’s Director of Business Development. “When you combine a person’s incredible will with the right support, the possibilities are endless. Dave, Todd, Hunter, and Randy’s stories illustrate their full and rich lives, and demonstrate how understanding and connection can change communities.”

The night of the film screening will culminate with a silent auction inspired by the participants themselves. Every creative work, hobby, and passion that brings them joy is reflected in the auction items, offering attendees a direct way to celebrate and support the specific, unique talents shown in the film. Proceeds from the event will be equally divided among the five collaborating organizations and will support continued inclusive programming and advocacy efforts throughout Carroll County and beyond.
