Baltimore – Penn-Mar Human Services, the region’s leading provider of services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), is pleased to announce that Kari Ebeling has joined the nonprofit as its new Director of Development and Special Events.

With over 20 years of experience in development, special events, and fundraising within the nonprofit sector, Kari has held several key leadership roles. Most recently, she served as the Director of Major Gifts for Central Scholarship. Prior to that, she was the Assistant Director of Development for Howard Community College, Chief Operating Officer for TriColumbia, and Director of Resource Development at The Arc of Howard County in Maryland.

In her new role, Kari will work to strengthen Penn-Mar’s philanthropic outreach by cultivating and nurturing meaningful relationships with donors, corporate partners, and the community. Her efforts will focus on increasing financial support and engagement, identifying new major and planned giving prospects, enhancing donor stewardship, and ensuring that all fundraising initiatives align with Penn-Mar’s mission of supporting people with IDD to live their best lives.

“Building new relationships and collaborating with long-standing partners is key to Penn-Mar’s long-term success, and that’s where Kari’s experience will be invaluable,” says Penn-Mar CEO Greg Miller. “The reason we’ve been so successful over the past 44 years is because the community sees the significance of our work. But that takes an expert storyteller like Kari to share and convey that importance and highlight why partnering with us and our mission is a great endeavor.”

Kari’s first major task was overseeing Penn-Mar’s largest fundraiser of the year, the 33rd Annual Gala, held on March 1, 2025. The event was a huge success, raising over $570,000 and showcasing Kari’s extensive experience in large-scale legacy fundraisers. While thrilled to be part of such a meaningful event, the true reward for Kari lies in knowing that Penn-Mar’s work is changing lives every day.

“It’s incredibly rewarding to be part of a mission that empowers people to live more independent and fulfilling lives,” says Kari. “So much of that mission depends on growing and deepening relationships with donors, supporters, and community partners who share the same passion for making a difference. The combination of purpose-driven work and the chance to witness the positive outcomes of those efforts makes working at Penn-Mar truly special.”

Kari takes over the Director of Development and Special Events position from long-time Penn-Mar team member Jackie Summers, who recently announced her retirement.
