Each month, we’re highlighting a “behind-the-scenes” team member whose work supports our mission, but whose face you might not often see on our social media pages.
We’re excited to help you get to know our innovative team and the complex work we do.
So, tune in for our #TeamMemberSpotlight, where our team members share in their own words a bit about themselves!
What is your job title? Administrative Assistant at the Westminster location
What’s an average day like for you? Of course it varies daily, but any typical administrative duties that you’d think of – answer emails, calls, and any kind of documentation in our databases. But then I also screen applicants/do phone interviews, run reports, and generally provide any support that our managers, quality coordinators, or DSPs may need.
What’s one thing you wish people realized about your job? I have my hands in all the pots – I do pieces of things in a lot of departments.
In another life, your career path is . . . A showrunner for a tv show. I love reading books and then watching the adaptation for shows or films and critiquing what I would do differently in their place (as I think most of us do), so I think it’d be awesome to be the one with control of that.
Why is Penn-Mar’s mission important to you? I enjoy being a part of a purpose to serve this population and on a team that’s working towards a common goal. The team members I work with are constantly looking at ways to empower people we support and are driven to helping them live their best lives.
What’s one thing you wished the general public knew about people with IDD? There’s so much more that they’re capable of than they’re given credit for, especially if you give people the proper tools, whether those tools are technological, behavioral, or specific supports, etc.
What’s your favorite food? There’s too much good food to pick one… so I will narrow it down to 4: lasagna, vegetable korma, pho, and yemista.
Any hidden talents or fun facts someone wouldn’t know about you? I have been to Greece 6 times in the last 3 years.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, you’d visit . . . Scotland – definitely on my bucket list in the next couple years.
In your spare time, you’ll be found . . . Being the “fun aunt” to my niece and nephew, watching a good show, or traveling.
A book, movie, TV show, sports team, etc. you love: I am currently reading the Outlander books, hence why Scotland is on my bucket list!
