Each month, we highlight a “behind-the-scenes” team member whose work supports our mission, but whose face you might not often see on our social media pages.
We’re excited to help you get to know our innovative team and the complex work we do.
So, tune in for our #TeamMemberSpotlight, where our team members share in their own words a bit about themselves!
What is your job title? Job Developer/Career Counselor and Consulting
What’s an average day like for you? My days are always fluid, which I love. I never know if an employer is going to call looking for a job seeker or I could start my day job coaching a new hire. Being part of the Consulting team, I could be teaching an ACRE class and supporting other agencies how to use the tools to support someone to connect with their community through the Customized Employment processes.
What’s one thing you wish people realized about your job? It is very satisfying, and I am very proud to be part of supporting someone to find their place in their community through their employment.
In another life, your career path is . . . I also saw myself in the role of caring for people. I learned early on in my teens that I had a true passion and sense I would be working with people with an IDD. I give credit to a sweet gentleman who had IDD but has now passed. He taught me what it meant to give patience and quality of time to someone. I always appreciate him for teaching me that.
Why is Penn-Mar’s mission important to you? Supporting people to live courageously in pursuit of their best life……who wouldn’t want to do that? I am very humbled that I am part of this, and it gives me great satisfaction that I get to.
What’s one thing you wished the general public knew about people with IDD? That they are no different than another that has wants, feelings, and desires and to have a purpose in life that gives value and self-worth.
What’s your favorite food? I really don’t have favorites, but if someone said let’s get seafood…I’m in…besides oysters.
Any hidden talents or fun facts someone wouldn’t know about you? I love boating and live on our boat from March thru November (weekends).
If you could travel anywhere in the world, you’d visit . . . I would give my husband his wish to go to Germany. He loves history and his family was from there.
In your spare time, you’ll be found . . . Being a Grandma aka Nana to my Grandchildren. Boating on the Eastern shore with my husband and two puppies, Josie and Honey.
A book, movie, TV show, sports team, etc. you love: I am very easy going and I do love to watch my grandson play football, baseball, and soon will get to enjoy more of that as the rest start to play sports.
