How did you get connected with Penn-Mar?
I first heard about Penn-Mar through people I knew personally, and that connection helped introduce me to the organization.
What was your previous work experience prior to Penn-Mar and how did it prepare you for your current role?
Before joining Penn-Mar, I spent my career in the for-profit business sector, where I gained broad experience in operations, leadership, and project management. My responsibilities included overseeing multi-department manufacturing processes and managing a multi-shift workforce. I also contributed to several project management initiatives that delivered meaningful, value-added benefits to the organization. That experience helped prepare me for my current role by strengthening my ability to lead complex projects, coordinate across teams, and focus on practical solutions that support long-term organizational goals.
What does your work entail?
In my current work at Penn-Mar Human Services, I help steward more than $40 million in fixed assets across a significant portfolio of residential, administrative, vehicle, and equipment resources while aligning infrastructure decisions with long-term mission needs and organizational strategy. My leadership approach is grounded in disciplined planning, sound stewardship, stakeholder engagement, and continuous improvement, bringing together operational insight, financial responsibility, and practical execution to strengthen services, improve efficiency, and support sustainable growth.
What’s an average day like for you?
No two days look the same, which is one of the things I appreciate about my role. On any given day, I may be reviewing capital project priorities, coordinating with internal teams or external partners, evaluating facility and asset needs, or helping make decisions that support Penn-Mar’s long-term sustainability. A lot of my work involves balancing immediate operational needs with thoughtful planning for the future, always with the goal of supporting the people and programs that make Penn-Mar’s mission possible.
What’s one thing you wish people realized about your job?
I wish people realized how much planning, coordination, and behind-the-scenes work goes into keeping facilities, vehicles, equipment, and capital projects running smoothly. When everything is working the way it should, it can be easy not to notice the amount of effort happening in the background. But a big part of our work is making sure the right resources are in place, problems are anticipated before they become bigger issues, and decisions are made with both today’s needs and Penn-Mar’s future in mind.
I’m also fortunate to have a strong team supporting this work. Kelly Lorenzen, our Fleet Management Coordinator, plays an important role in helping manage the vehicles and transportation-related needs that support our programs every day. Matt Halter, our Facilities Manager, helps oversee the maintenance and operation of our buildings and physical spaces. Together, our team works to make sure the infrastructure behind Penn-Mar is reliable, safe, and aligned with the organization’s mission.

Why is Penn-Mar’s mission important to you?
Penn-Mar’s mission is important to me because it is centered on helping people live meaningful, supported, and fulfilling lives. Even though much of my work happens behind the scenes, I know the facilities, vehicles, equipment, and capital projects we manage directly support the people Penn-Mar serves and the staff who walk alongside them every day.
That connection gives my work a deeper purpose. It is not just about maintaining buildings or managing assets; it is about making sure the foundation is in place for programs, services, and opportunities that help people thrive. Being part of that mission for 16 years has been both meaningful and rewarding.
What’s one thing you wished the general public knew about people with IDD?
People with IDD want many of the same things we all want: to be respected, included, listened to, and given opportunities to contribute in meaningful ways. When communities take the time to understand, include, and value people for who they are, everyone benefits.

Any hidden talents or fun facts someone wouldn’t know about you?
When I was in 6th grade, I won a reading contest in my school for completing 128 books for the academic year.

I’ve always had a strong sense of cerebral curiosity and a natural drive to keep learning. I enjoy exploring ideas, asking questions, and understanding how things work, whether that applies to my personal interests, professional challenges, or the way I approach problem-solving. That mindset has shaped both my personal life and my career, and it continues to influence how I take on new challenges, look for opportunities to grow, and stay open to new perspectives.
